Community Food Pantry
The ACFSO has recently partnered with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Southern Branch. The Southern Branch serves Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and parts of Burlington counties from its 27,000-square-foot warehouse in Egg Harbor Township. This branch distributes an average of 55,000 pounds of groceries every week, for a total 2.67 million pounds of groceries per year. Like the main branch in Hillside, the Southern Branch is a private non-profit charity that solicits, stores and distributes donations of food and grocery products on behalf of organizations feeding those in need. The branch works with hundreds of food manufacturers, brokers, and retailers statewide to collect contributions of excess inventory. Once received, the items are offered to about 300 charitable agencies, including homeless shelters, battered women shelters, emergency food pantries, senior citizen programs, day care centers, group homes for the disabled and substance abuse facilities. The ACFSO will be distributing the food it receives from the food bank to eligible families that are involved in our organization. To qualify for the program at the ACFSO a family must meet one of the following criteria:
- Attendance in one of our community support groups
- Involvement in the Care Management Organization (CMO)
- Youth Partnership family
